The Bible is clear that King David was a sinner, but he is also called a man after God's own heart -- not because of how often he fell, but because he kept coming back to God. It was in his heart to do God's will, even though he struggled with his sinful nature. David wrote this powerful and beautiful Psalm specifically for the Sabbath. It describes a pinnacle of Sabbath understanding in the Old Testament. This Psalm of the Sabbath has several sections of 3 or 4 verses each. It shows that the Sabbath vindicates God against Satan's false accusations. The sections show that the Sabbath, rather than being a day of drudgery, is a day of delight and joy, a time to bask in His love, a time to worship and adore the Creator God. He is seen not only as the Creator God, but the recreating and sanctifying God who makes His people holy. The Sabbath also becomes a day to anticipate the ultimate glory of His presence, the ultimate rest in the kingdom.
